Frequently Asked Questions

Need something cleared up? Here are the answers to the most common questions.

Does elea Lab cover the entire pathology workflow?

Yes. elea Lab supports the full end-to-end workflow in pathology – from digital order entry (if required) and sample reception, through macroscopic examination and the complete laboratory process, all the way to histological assessment, report creation, and report delivery.

In some countries, billing can also be handled directly via elea. In Germany, elea is “KV-certified”, ensuring compliance with local billing and regulatory requirements.

Does elea require any special hardware?

No, elea does not require any special hardware. elea is a web-based system and can be used on standard computers with a modern web browser.

That said, many customers choose to use iPads as their primary devices. elea offers a dedicated iPad app and takes full advantage of the iPad’s capabilities:

  • the integrated camera for scanning and photo documentation,
  • a high-quality microphone for voice input,
  • mobile use directly in the lab, and
  • a secure and reliable platform.

This combination allows teams to work flexibly, efficiently, and close to the actual workflow in the pathology lab.

Can devices such as cassette printers, staining machines, and other lab equipment be integrated with elea?

Yes, absolutely. elea is designed to integrate seamlessly with a wide range of laboratory devices, including cassette printers, slide printers, staining machines, and other pathology equipment.

Thanks to its open and interoperable architecture, elea can be connected to existing systems and devices without any issues, ensuring smooth workflows and consistent data flow across the entire lab.

Can digital images (WSI) be viewed directly in elea?

elea does not include its own built-in WSI viewer. However, interoperability is a core principle of elea, and we ensure maximum convenience for our customers.

elea can be seamlessly connected to the common IMS and scanner viewers used in digital pathology. This allows cases to be opened in either system – elea or the IMS – with the corresponding case automatically opening in the other system at the same time.

As a result, users benefit from a smooth, integrated workflow without the need to manually switch between systems.

Is elea Lab suitable for small labs as well as large pathology networks?

Does elea Lab support multi-site and networked pathology structures?

Yes. elea Lab fully supports multi-location setups, shared case pools, and cross-site collaboration within one system.
